Privacy policy

MetaCounter is a reference site. It has no forms and no advertising, and the only sign-in is an optional one for voting on WARDOGS loadouts. It uses Google Analytics cookies to count visits, and this page lists everything it collects.

Who runs this site

MetaCounter is an independent, unofficial fan project run by one editor. It is not affiliated with any game publisher. For anything on this page, email info@danailab.com.

Analytics and cookies

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits. When a page loads, Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by our property ID) so it can tell one visit from the next. We use it to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they arrived. We see aggregate reports, not individuals, and it is not used for advertising.

Each hit includes the page URL, an approximate location derived from your IP address (Google truncates IP addresses before storing them), and your browser and device type. Google's handling of that data is described in Google's privacy policy. Analytics is off entirely when the site is viewed on a local development build.

To opt out, block cookies for this site in your browser, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site. Content blockers that block Google Analytics also work. The site works the same either way.

Vercel Web Analytics

The site also uses Vercel Web Analytics, from the company that hosts it, to count page views. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Vercel identifies a visit with a hash of the request that is discarded after a day, so it cannot follow you from one day to the next or across other sites. We see totals: page views, visitors, referring sites, countries and device types. See Vercel's Web Analytics privacy notes.

Hosting logs

The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel records standard server logs for each request: the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user agent string. Those logs are used to keep the site running and to diagnose faults, and are retained on Vercel's standard schedule. See Vercel's privacy policy.

One embedded video

The Marvel Rivals home page plays the current season trailer, embedded from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com). The embed loads only after the page has rendered in your browser, and not at all if your system has reduced motion enabled. Once loaded it makes requests to Google's servers, which are governed by Google's policy linked above. No other page embeds third-party content.

WARDOGS loadouts: saving, posting and voting

The WARDOGS cost per life calculator can save loadouts. A saved loadout is kept in your own browser's local storage and never sent to us; clearing your browser data deletes it. A shared link carries the loadout in the part of the address after the #, which browsers do not send to any server.

Posting a loadout to the public board and voting on one need a Discord sign-in. We ask Discord for the identify permission only, which returns your basic profile (account ID, username and avatar) but never your email, your servers or your messages. We read the account ID from it and discard the rest. The moment the ID arrives we turn it into a one-way keyed hash and keep only that, so the board knows a vote came from the same person as last time but cannot tell who that person is. Your Discord login token is used once to read the ID and then thrown away.

Signing in sets one cookie of our own, mc_session, holding that hash and an expiry date, for 30 days. During sign-in a second cookie, mc_oauth, lives for ten minutes to protect the round trip to Discord. We store the loadouts posted, the hashed ID behind each vote, and a daily count of posts per hashed ID that deletes itself after a day, in a database run by Upstash for our host. To sign out, use the Sign out link under the board, or delete the cookie. Nothing else on the site changes whether you are signed in or not.

What this site does not do

  • No accounts or profiles of our own. The one optional sign-in goes through Discord and is described above.
  • No forms. The only way to contact us is email, and mail is used to reply and for nothing else.
  • No advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsored content, and no advertising trackers.
  • No cookies of our own unless you sign in to vote, described above. Otherwise the only cookies are Google Analytics'.
  • No sale or rental of data, and nothing shared beyond Google Analytics and the host described above.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, UK or another jurisdiction with data protection rights, you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to processing. In practice the answer to "what do you hold" is nothing we can tie to you: analytics is held by Google under a random cookie ID, and we see it only as aggregate reports. If you voted on loadouts, we hold your votes under a hashed ID we cannot reverse; send us your Discord account ID and we can work out the same hash and delete your votes. The only other personal data we ever receive directly is an email you choose to send. Ask anyway if you want to, at the address above.

Changes

The date at the top of this page moves when the policy changes, not when the site does. If the site ever adds a form, an account, an advertising network or any other third party, this page will say so before it goes live.
